sayonara

Today I made the decision to discontinue my relationship with Twitter and Facebook (for the page).  I will continue using my personal FB account though earlier this year I did a clean up of it.  It felt pretty good to go through all those "friends" that I never speak with and remove pages that I liked for some giveaway or pages that were mainly about babies or cloth diapering.  We're 98.9% potty trained around here and those pages, while still great sources, just aren't for me anymore.

That's what Twitter and this blog's FB page had become.  A place where automatic posts with links to the blog are being generated and shared.  I don't interact there.  To be honest, I very rarely even visit Twitter.  And only if there is a notification glaring at me from the sidebar do I visit the FB page.

So.... I clicked the deactivate button on the Twitter.  It said, "Hey there!  Slow your role.  Did you know that we'll only keep your stuff (including your Twitter handle) for 30 days?  Then it's sayonara."

Wait... what?  Hold up... I just wanted to deactivate for a while.  Take a breather.  So it's still "active", but not actually active.  I just didn't want some other Christine Bewley to get my @christinebewley handle.  Yep, it's petty and childish.  No, I don't care.  Sorry other Christine Bewley's out there.

Mine.  Mine.  Mine.  Like the seagulls trying to eat Dory and Nemo.

And the FB page?  Ever since the updates of paying for people to see what you post, the view counts are so scattered.  One post will be seen 100 times and another will only be seen 15.

All of this social media is just too much!  Why would you want to see the same thing posted in 5 or 6 different places?  I don't, so I imagine that most others don't either.  I'll still be floating around on Instagram (I'm still addicted to that!) and here on the blog.

No worries.  You won't be able to get rid of me that easily!

    1. I just didn't use them. I might not post here for a few days, but I'll always find my way back here! :)

  2. I've been thinking about giving up Facebook altogether, but too many people use that as their only way of letting anyone know what's going on in their lives, that I keep it out of obligation.

    1. I've thought about it so many times! But you are right, so many people use it as communication. I just recently did a cleaning out of sorts and the news feed is much more manageable.
