SITS - Back to Blogging - Day 2

Today's assignment: Re-upload a post you wish more people had read and explain why it was important to you.

I've decided to go with a post I did last summer about getting my hair chopped off.  I know it doesn't sound that interesting, but I did it so I could donate it!  I'm re-blogging it because I think more people should realize that even by doing small things, you can make a big difference.

I wanted to save this post for Friday, but I can't wait that long. I also thought this would make the perfect "Think About This..." for today!  After reading this post, those of you who know me in the real world are going to be in shock.  I actually did this for one specific reader.  I've been going over it in my mind for a long while, but I've never had the courage.  Finally, while we were on vacation this past week, I found it.  The courage, I mean.

I haven't had a "professional" hair cut since I was in the 5th grade.  You'd think my hair would be really, really long, but it isn't.  I overprocess and have split ends to beat all split ends, but after the tragic mullet the hair lady gave me all those years ago, I trusted no one to touch my noggin.

Please hold your applause... this was supposed to be "feathered".  You guys remember "feathering"?

Chris has been my hair stylist for at least 10 years now.  As long as it's just cutting in a straight line, he's a master.  Last year, Cam's seester Ashley was kind enough to cut off just enough of my hair so that I felt like I'd actually gotten a hair cut, but without really giving me a real hair cut for my birthday.  I was so excited.

I took advantage of her uber-hairstylist skills.  She hooked me up.  I didn't even have to twist her arm.  When I told her what I wanted to do, she was on board.  I have to admit I was more than a bit frightened.  I was terrifed.  Not of her, but of the actual deed.  I think the results speak for themselves.

Do you see how excited I am?  I can't really remember when my hair was this short.  In fact, I think it was when I whacked off my own hair just after my son was born... 10 YEARS AGO!  Oy vey... I was in need of this.

We gently tucked my 10 inch long pony tail into a Ziploc bag and it's currently awaiting stampage from the Post Office.  I'm donating it to Locks of Love for Rubi.  Ashley is greatly talented with a pair of scissors and I'll never let anyone else ever touch my head.  I'm dedicated.  Plus this means more trips to south Georgia!  I love you, Ash-ah-lee!

So, yeah... Think About This... Ten inches sounds like it's a HUGE amount of hair, but you know what?  It's really not.  I repeated to myself that a child with any number of medical conditons was going to be able to go to the store or go outside to play because a wig was made from just 10 inches of my hair.  I hope that they love it as much as I did.  What are you doing with your hair???
